COMMON QUESTIONS
A. St. Joseph's Kids Carpentry is a virtue based math enrichment program for Kindergarten – 6th grade Catholic students. Children learn woodworking skills using applied mathematics and real hand tools. In this highly motivating environment you can see children, holding a quarter-inch ruler preparing to measure a piece of wood that will soon be turned into his or her masterpiece. When they 'miss the mark (sinum),' they are taught about sin & God's great love for us.
Q. What responsibilities will I have?
A. This varies from site to site. Some facilities provide registration, basic advertising, and access to the physical space. Other sites provide a key to open the building and access to a vacuum. St. Joseph's Kids Carpentry provides all insurance, flyers, materials, tools, etc.
Q. How much does each session cost?
A. Sessions are typically broken up into 4-6 classes. Every class is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes long. Each session is approximately $75. Tuition includes all insurance and materials. Birthday parties are being piloted. Call to discuss what interests you have.
Q. How many kids’ have been seriously injured in 27 years?
A. Actually none. The greatest amount of first aid we’ve had to offer is the occasional band aid. Our proven system keeps kids engaged and safe.
Q. What are your teachers’ qualifications?
A. All of our teachers carry a $1 million liability insurance policy, have a full background check, and are VIRTUS Certified. Every teacher undergoes two weeks of one-on-one training and 40 hours of teaching with a Kids’ Carpentry Director.
Q. What is your teaching experience?
A. I taught Math, English, and Science, prepared students for reception of the Sacraments, and coached varsity soccer for 6 years at a boarding school for children with special needs. Engaging these talented, yet very at-risk, junior and senior high students, brought me great joy.
